SPEAKER HUBBARD ANNOUNCES COMMITTEE APPOINTMENTS FOR 2014 LEGISLATIVE SESSION

MONTGOMERY – Alabama Speaker of the House Mike Hubbard (R-Auburn) on Thursday announced a slate of new vice chairman and other important committee appointments that will begin during the 2014 Regular Legislative Session.

“I am confident that this group of legislators will continue our successful efforts to fundamentally change how Montgomery operates,” said Hubbard. “Our work over the past three years has placed Alabama firmly on the road to reform and this year will be no different.  Each of these individuals is uniquely qualified to fill these roles and I look forward to working with each of them as we continue to move Alabama forward.”

The following individuals have been named Vice Chairman of their respective committees:

  • Representative Mike Ball (R-Madison), Vice Chairman, House Committee on Internal Affairs
  • Representative Dickie Drake (R-Leeds), Vice Chairman, House Committee on Military and Veteran Affairs
  • Representative Jack Williams (R-Vestavia Hills), Vice Chairman, House Committee on Financial Services
  • Representative Greg Wren (R-Montgomery), Vice Chairman, House Ways and Means General Fund Committee

Speaker Hubbard also announced key appointments to other important House Committees, including:

·       House Agriculture and Forestry Committee: Representative David Sessions (R- Grand Bay)

·       House County and Municipal Government Committee: Representative Randall Shedd (R- Cullman)

·       House Economic Development and Tourism Committee: Representative Kurt Wallace (R- Maplesville)

·       House Education Policy Committee: Representative Terri Collins (R-Decatur)

·       House Internal Affairs Committee: Representative April Weaver (R-Brierfield)

·       House Judiciary Committee: Representative David Standridge (R- Hayden)

·       House Transportation, Utilities and Infrastructure Committee: Representative Randall Shedd (R- Cullman)

·       House Ways and Means Education Committee: Representative Mac Buttram (R- Cullman) and Representative Donnie Chesteen (R- Geneva)

·       House Ways and Means General Fund Committee: Representative Paul Lee (R-Dothan)

The appointments will take effect for the 2014 regular legislative session, which is scheduled to convene on January 14, 2014.

Earlier this year, Speaker Hubbard announced key Chairman appointments to several committees, including:

·       Representative Steve Clouse (R- Ozark), Chairman, House Ways and Means General Fund Committee

·       Representative Alan Harper (R-Northport), Chairman, House Economic Development and Tourism Committee

·       Representative Bill Poole (R-Tuscaloosa), Chairman, House Ways and Means Education Committee

·       Representative Lesley Vance (R- Phenix City), Chairman, House Financial Services Committee
