Montgomery – Alabama Speaker of the House Mike Hubbard (R – Auburn) on Monday announced that he has appointed State Rep. Lesley Vance (R – Phenix City) to serve as chairman of the House Financial Services Committee.

The committee handles legislation that addresses issues affecting banking, lending, and other finance-related industries.

“Rep. Vance possesses a deep knowledge of banking issues and other fiscal matters that are vital to this committee, and he has set himself apart as a leader within the body,” Hubbard said.  “I trust that he will render a great service to the citizens of Alabama in this post.”

Vance, who served as vice chairman for the past three years and also chaired the committee during a previous quadrennium, will take over from State Rep. Steve Clouse (R – Ozark), the recently named head of the House Ways and Means General Fund budget panel.

His appointment will take effect immediately.

“The House Financial Services Committee routinely considers important legislation that impacts virtually every family in Alabama in some manner or another,” Vance said.  “I appreciate the confidence that Speaker Hubbard has displayed with my appointment, and the members of our committee will work hard to faithfully represent the interests of the constituents we serve.”

Elected to the House in 1994, Vance represents District 80, which encompasses portions of Lee and Russell counties.

He owns and operates Vance Memorial Chapel and has served as both county coroner and county commissioner in Russell County.
